Here's a quick 411 of common washer problems and likely repair solutions.
1. Spin Cycle Won't Start
Most often due to a faulty lid switch, which prevents the washer from knowing when the lid is closed. The switch will need to be replaced for the machine to trigger the spin cycle or else the water will just sit there. This washer repair is simple, affordable and doesn't take very long to complete.
2. Machine Runs Very Loudly
A loud washing machine is a very common problem. The most obvious reason for this issue is because of stuffing too much into one loud. If the machine is also rocking around violently, check that it's installed evenly on your laundry room floor. If the issue has to do with internal part failure, chances are the tub or rear drum bearing is worn out and will need to be replaced.
3. Drain Cycle Doesn't Work
Most often, the issue will lie within the drain pump. Clothing and other small items can get stuck in the drain pump and cause it to stop draining water from your washing machine. The pump might need to be replaced or it could just need to be cleaned out. The drain hose could also become obstructed and might need to be cleared.
4. Overflowing Water Leaks
Sometimes a washing machine can overflow and leak water out from the gaps in the lid. The most likely reason for this is an issue with the water inlet valve. The best way to troubleshoot this issue is to kill the power to your washer while it's filling up. If the valve is defective the water will continue to come through to the machine even when it doesn't have power. If this is the case, the valve will need to be replaced.
A new washing machine isn't cheap and that's enough reason to justify maintaining your unit as best as you can. What can you do to make sure your washer lasts as long as possible? One little thing we suggest you do is inspect your washing machine hoses at least every couple months or so. All it takes is a bit of cracking to start and then all of a sudden the hose could burst and cause your laundry room to flood. Not only will you have to replace the hose but possibly your flooring and more.
